THINK FUTURE!
The first International TVET Youth Forum was held on 14 and 15 October 2017 during WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. The event was the first of its kind and a unique opportunity for young professionals to shape the future of skills.
From August to the end of September 2017, participants discussed specific global challenges and delivered their vision of the future to high-level policymakers and to spark a positive change.
The Outcome
Participants worked together to write a Youth Declaration on the future of skills and TVET and presented it to global decision makers.
The Youth Declaration was the starting point of a powerful legacy, framing conversations that follow WorldSkills Abu Dhabi’s vision to trigger concrete global action.
The Participants
300 young professionals from 70 different countries, aged 17 to 32 with skills ranging from plastering and nursing to electricity and beauty therapy, came together to work on the Youth Declaration.

Key Milestones
Kick Off Event
On 15 August 2017, a kick-off event was held in Abu Dhabi for participants to be inspired by leading experts in a variety of skills and to engage in collaborative team building activities.
Online Forum
From August to end of September, participants worked in online forums on specific topics related to their Think Tanks, sharing their opinions, research and personal experiences.
They were supported by professional facilitators and guided by expert mentors on the selected topics.
Live Youth Forum
After collaborating online, participants met in person during the live forum in Abu Dhabi. They heard inspiring insights from leading experts in a variety of skills as well as the TVET ecosystem. They then participated in workshops and breakout sessions to finalize the Youth Declaration.

The Speakers
H.E. Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui
Minister of State for Youth, UAE
Her Excellency Shamma bint Suhail bin Faris Al Mazrui, was appointed as the UAE Minister of State for Youth Affairs in the new Cabinet, announced in February 2016. Her tasks are focused on representing youth issues and aspirations at the ministerial Council, setting development plans and strategies for improving youth capabilities, in addition to further utilizing their energy in various fields.
H.E. Mubarak Saaed Al Shamsi
Director General of ACTVET, UAE
His Excellency Mubarak Al Shamsi studied Education Administration at Queensland University of Technology (Australia). He has held a number of posts in the education sector and was appointed as Director General of ACTVET in 2014. His belief in the future of technical education, and the need for technology to be led by young qualified Emiratis, lies at the core of ACTVET.
